Small nuclear and the green revolution

19 May 2021, 5–7pm online.

The Midlands branch of the Nuclear Institute presents an evening with industry leaders discussing small modular reactor (SMR) technology in the region and its role in the green recovery.

With the UK government committing to ambitious carbon reduction targets, the challenge of the next decade will focus around the drive to implement efficient, cost effective green power to the UK network. Small and advanced modular reactors could address some of the cost and lead time challenges often associated with nuclear new build, while providing a stable source of low carbon energy to supplement the work done by other green technologies.

Join NI Midlands for an evening with leaders from the sector, looking at current progress on getting a UK SMR on the ground. The online event will highlight the opportunities the programme can provide the Midlands region, and look ahead to the challenges and milestones of the next few years.

The event is free to attend, and delegates can submit questions ahead of time to panellists including:

  • Tom Samson, UK SMR Consortium
  • Andrew Storer, Nuclear AMRC
  • Craig Lester, BEIS
  • Richard Deakin, UK Research & Innovation
